LINK Details
Every junior at Animas High School participates in the LINK internship program. LINK meaning, Leading Internships for New Knowledge. For 3 weeks in May students will not attend classes, they instead spend their time in an internship with a mentor of their choice. For more information about the LINK program visit ahsinternships.weebly.com. LINK Anticipation When it came time to find an internship I began emailing anyone in the area who worked in film (roughly 3 people), but I didn't get any immediate responses. Due to a recommendation, I emailed Greg Cairns at Cairns Film in Bozeman Montana. He responded with an email stating that he was willing to have me intern under him. This, in combination with his impressive portfolio moved me to pursue him for my LINK internship. I anticipate that my internship will revolve around my drive to get the most out of it. Since I am making a documentary about independent artists I have to learn a lot of new things about fundraising and promotion. I anticipate that doing all of these things while filming the documentary will be a unique challenge, a challenge that I am excited for. I hope to learn about what it means to be an independent filmmaker and how one would start in a pre-production phase and end with a finished film. I anticipate that I will bring a critical eye to Greg's work. I hope to help him work through post production on his latest film, " The Durfees " When I return to school I hope to leave an impact with my eagerness and motivation. For most of my internship I was completely independent, it was up to me to do everything surrounding my film and I hope that makes and impact on Greg. LINK Reflection Coming to LINK with a solid knowledge of how to conduct informational interviews was critical for me. Because I knew how to hold documentary style interviews, Greg did not have to dedicate time to teaching me and we could move along with the project at a much faster rate. I also feel that my extensive knowledge of cinematic technique was useful in that I never wasted time while setting up the visual piece of an interview.
