The first draft of my college essay was extremely focused on one set of events. This meant that I could go into detail, but anyone who wasn’t familiar with my story would be unable to invest themselves in it. The biggest weakness of my first draft was a lack of background information. I described the process of editing a film but I didn’t give any context to why I was making the film. After our class critique I realized that my essay would be easier to follow if I added a paragraph explaining the topic. I went through two drafts of my essay before I had given enough context for my thoughts to flow well. I ended up using the second paragraph of my essay to provide context for the rest of it. To help understand what specific pieces of context to add I asked my peers. Their feedback was to add more information about the kind of film I was editing and who I worked with to complete it. I followed these guidelines to add the final touches to my essay.
