Since January I have worked alongside a group of individuals dedicated to craftsmanship and artistry. Their creations concern the combination of topographical maps and fine art. Over the past year they have gained an audience in Durango and are continually creating astonishing pieces for an ever growing clientele base. More detail about their work and accomplishments can be found here: https://mountainsmade.com/
Over the past months I have fully completed two spec videos showing different stages of the woodworking process. In the first of the two videos (SCALED At Artesanos) I demonstrate how topographical pieces could pair with interior design through a film set in Artesanos gallery. The second video (SCALED Shop) details how the pieces themselves are constructed from start to finish through a view of the carving process. Currently, I am working on a video that combines a detailed study of how the carving is done with the company/brand mission. At this point I’ve collected over an hour of the carving process and am moving on to create a loose script which will pair with the carving footage.

The past semester has seen my creative interests in filmmaking peak. This internship has given me every opportunity to explore film production and refinement while helping me realize my strengths in editing and composition. This has all led to my creation of 3 distinct plans for videos that can be now completed to support their brand, all based on my two spec videos, but this process was not without difficulty. My biggest challenge was filming the inanimate. Usually my films have moving subjects, but taping art pieces did not afford me that luxury. This meant that I had to get creative through my use of music and editing to achieve an engaging final product. In my opinion, my second spec film demonstrates this much better than my first. Now that I’ve learned this I am hopeful that I can continue creating films alongside my mentors for as long as they’ll have me as well as move on to study filmmaking come fall 2018.
